Different forms of transport!

This term we are studying different forms of transport and how people and things get from 'here to there'. We are also looking at how different forms of transport change over time.

The junior syndicate was very lucky yesterday to have the opportunity to look at two very old fashioned cars bought to Normandale School by Mr and Mrs Cameron. Mrs Silcock also bought her car out onto the back court and we asked ourselves "what are the differences and similarities between the two old cars and Mrs Silcock's new car?" Here are some of the ideas we came up with:

Both cars have: wheels, an engine, headlights, break lights, windows, window wipers, bonnets, boots, horns....

However..... the old cars did not have seat belts, they were much smaller inside, they had smaller engines, different shapes, one of the old cars had doors that opened different ways and the 1951 Bradford Sports Spec didn't even have doors!

Miss Head's favorite was the green 1931 Bradford Sports Spec. Here is a photo of Miss Head and Mrs Silcock sitting inside it!!!!

Here are some more photos of these fabulous cars.........

Practicing our doubles to 20!

This week we have been practicing our doubles to 20. Miss Head gave each of us a doubles equation e.g 2+2=4, 4+4=8 etc and we had to find different things around the room to show that equation. We also had fun making doubles posters. Here are some of our posters we made that show some of the doubles to 20.

Mathletics!

On Monday we had lots of fun in room 5 solving maths problems on Mathletics! Miss Head set some fun challenges for us. We were very lucky to have some support from Room 7 students who came to help us. Here are a few photos of us working hard....

Wheels Day!!!!!!

Today at school we had wheels day. This meant that we got to bring things like our bikes, scooters, little cars, heelies (shoes with wheels on the bottom!) and other things to school with us. We were really lucky because from 11am-12.30pm we got to ride our wheels and play! Some of us were outside riding our wheels and some of us were in the hall playing with our little wheels and other fun activities. Here are some photos of us in the hall......

These are plastic frames with wheels on them. We had to hold on to the handles and slide around on our tummy or back.

It was hard at first but we got the hang of it!!

We made tunnels for our cars to drive through!

We even made little farms to drive our tractors on!

Look at me! I brought a go-cart to school. I am having heaps of fun. I am also remembering to be safe because I am wearing my helmet.

We also made bridges out of blocks for our cars to drive on.

This was one of Miss Head's favorites. We decided to be really clever and creative and build our very own Jurassic Park. We made little cages out of blocks and put our dinosaurs in them. We called it Jurassic park. Miss Head thought this was really cool.

Room 4's Wall Displays.

Room 4's Rock Pool!

Here is Room 4's rock pool! We have been working really hard on putting our rock pool together. We have nearly finished, however we still have a few more sea creatures to put into the water!

Our tennis lessons started on Tuesday!

On Tuesday we started our tennis lessons! We had lots of fun learning how to bounce the ball onto the ground with our tennis racket and learning how to bounce the ball up into the air as well. We also tried balancing the ball on our tennis racket and walking around the court! Here are some photos of us all having a go:

Special Visitors!

The Junior Syndicate at Normandale School had some special furry visitors on Friday! Eliza and Oscar brought their rabbits AB and Floppy Flo to visit us! Floppy Flo was named 'Floppy Flo' because she has a floppy ear! Here are some photos of us with Floppy Flo and AB:

Making our very own rocky shore!

Today we were busy making our very own rocky shore.  First we talked about all of the interesting sea creatures that live amongst the rocks. Then we started making our own sea creatures and we also started painting our rock pools. Our sea creatures will live in our rocky shore in Room 4. Here are some photos of us painting!!

Our trip to the rocky shore!

Yesterday our junior syndicate went on a trip to Island Bay beach. We learnt lots about the different creatures and plants which live in amongst the rocks and how to respect their habitats.
We also visited the Island Bay Marine Education Centre. This was really fun because we learnt lots of interesting facts about sea creatures. We also got to see a female octopus which had laid thousands of eggs and we got to hold some sea creatures, including kina, anemones, worms, sea stars, limpets, sea slugs and other cool things too! Have a look at us exploring!!
